Why do batteries have to be in opposite positions when next to eachother in a remote control for example?
like the batteries in a remote control. the batteries are in opposite positions. the positive and negative are facing different ways. why is this?
It shows that the batteries are connected in "Series".
This means that the positive electrode of one is connected to the negative electrode of the next and so on, this increases the overall voltage available and there are only two ends to connect to. Four 1.5V batteries in series gives 6V overall.
If they were connected in "Parallel" as suggested above then the voltage would remain at 1.5V but the current capability will be increased four fold.
