Is Roy Williams an elite Wide Receiver?
I'm wondering exactly what kind of contributions we can expect from this guy this year. Any particular strengths/weaknesses? Past output for the Lions?
Roy Williams was the seventh overall pick of the 2004 draft. His only Pro Bowl came in 2006; when he caught 82 passes for 1310 yards.
He is a big, tall receiver with great hands and a long reach. He has good, not elite; speed. He is also a big redzone threat because he has a long reach and can shield defenders away with his body.
I think Williams was held back by being on some weak Lions teams. Last year he only caught 19 passes for the Cowboys; but he arrived late and never got in sync with Tony Romo. He also suffered a foot injury that limited him in practice and in games.
Offensive coordinator Jason Garrett admitted he didn't know how to use Williams; who wasn't around in training camp when the offense was installed.
As a number one receiver again, I think Williams is good for 70 catches for 1,000 yards and six touchdowns. However, Jason Witten will probably be Romo's go-to guy.
