What was the justification for the establishment of the state of Israel?
This is intended as a genuine inquiry, not simply to be provocative -I do not understand. I appreciate the world wide revulsion at the Holocaust and huge sympathy for the Jewish people after this horror and suffering, but is this the sole rationale for creating a "Jewish homeland"?
Also, Israel claims to be a secular state - questionable - but regulates immigration to Israel based on Jewish ethnicity, or so I am told. Wouldn't any other nation, especially any democracy, would be denounced for such a policy? Moreover, does the existence of a Jewish homeland actually perpetuate sectarianism and racial prejudice? Does the logic of Israel suggest we should work towards a Christian homeland, a Muslim homeland, a Hindu homeland, an Atheist homeland and so on? Is the justification political, moral or Biblical? Do any Israeli supporters have trouble reconciling its condemnation of the use of terror by opponents when some of its pioneers (e.g. the Stern Gang) utilised similar tactics?
