Dispatch: Strickland is holding a lousy hand

Sunday, September 27, 2009

Joe Hallett at The Columbus Dispatch writes:

A song gets stuck in your head, you can't get it out and it drives you crazy.

The Gambler by Kenny Rogers ought to be driving Gov. Ted Strickland crazy. Hearing its lyrics bang through the brain over and over and over might be the one thing left that will restore sanity to the governor's budget strategy.

You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em

Know when to walk away and know when to run.

It's time for Strickland to fold his cards and walk away from video slot machines at the seven horse-racing tracks.

The odds against getting 17,500 slots up and running to begin producing $933 million needed to balance the current two-year budget have become impossible to overcome.
