Change User Password from a Remote Computer

A computer network, in short referred to as a network, is a collection of computers and devices interconnected by communications channels that facilitate communications among users and allows users to share resources. A computer network in an office is great concept which increases productivity and reduces the amount of time spent in travel by the employees.

Windows User Account password on any Windows computer can be changed from any other Windows computer. It makes no difference if the User Account is on a workstation, a stand-alone server, or a Windows domain controller. Similarly, there is no difference whether the password is being changed from a workstation, a stand-alone server, or a Windows domain controller.
The ability to access the company network remotely has many advantages. One of those is that you can change User Password from a Remote Computer. You do not need to be logged on from the User Account Database which contains the Username, and you do not have to be currently logged on with that Username. This procedure will be especially helpful, if you want to change your password in a User Account Database or security accounts manager (SAM) that is not in your default logon domain.

For Windows NT or 2000 edition, the steps are:

1. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL simultaneously to bring up the Windows Security dialog box.
2. Click on the Change Password button.
3. Enter the User name whose password you want to change.
4. In the From dialog box, you can click either the computer name or domain name in the drop-down list box, or type the computer name or domain name that have the User Account Database where the user name exists.
5. Type the Old Password, New Password, and Confirm New Password accordingly.
6. Your password will be changed and you will receive a message to this effect.

For other versions of Windows, the steps are:

1. Log on to your own computer and press Start button. Select Run from the menu and type mstsc in the box. A Remote Desktop Connection Dialog box will open. Type the name or the IP address of the remote computer in this box. Click on Connect to connect to the remote computer.

1. Right click on the My Computer icon on the remote computer and select Manage from the list. Click on Local Users and Groups and choose Users folder. Clicking on this folder will display a list of users.
2. Right-click on the user whose password you have to change and select Set Password from the list. Type the new password in the box and click OK to accept the new password.
