1/27/09 what should TV HDLCD should I buy? Sony Bravia 52" KDL52WL14 $2,250, Philips 52" 52PFL5603 $1,387 or ?
My 10 year old Sony Wega XBR 36" keeps blowing out. I got it fixed a few months ago, but now blew out again. I want to get a new set, like an LCD, however, so many choices. I love Sony but the price difference is allot vs. like Philips or even a Vizio. Is there that much difference in quality of picture between a Sony Bravia and Vizio. I would like to save a $1,000 bucks but would pay if it is that much of a difference. The specs look pretty much the same between all like 1080P, 4 HDMI, 1920 x 1080 resolution. Don't know what the contrast ratio is but the Philips is 10,000 x 1 vs Sony Bravia 3,000 x 1. Even the Samsung 46" HD LCD looks good also at $1,298. Any advise would be great.
Thanks,
Mel
I've compared the Sony with the Philips. The Sony has a much better picture.
Don't worry about contrast ratios. They don't really use the same scales so comparisons are meaningless. Early on, I'm sure it made a difference, but not today.
Samsung makes an excellent TV for a good price. I had purchased a 52" Samsung last year, but had to return it after my kid threw a pacifier at it and it knocked out some pixels. This happened within 10 days of purchasing, so my retailer took mercy on me, and I switched to plasma. That's my word of warning here. LCDs screens are far more likely to be damaged, then old tube TVs or plasmas. Poke some in the store. You'll see what I mean.
